Working with AGEC Australia Geotechnical Consultants, we performed geotechnical, civil and structural engineering works for Atlas Iron’s new stockyard facility located at Utah Point in Port Hedland Port. The facility consists of stock-piles of iron ore up to seventeen metres in height with associated roads, stackers, reclaimer and conveyors to handle the ore from road-trains to stock-piles through to waiting ships at the Utah Point berths.
Our team was responsible for all aspects of geotechnical, civil and structural design excluding the material handling equipment. Poor ground conditions meant that stone piles were required to support the enormous weight from the stockpiles. Reclaimer and stacker equipment are supported on piled ground beams designed to limit serviceability deflections to the strict requirements of the rail-mounted equipment.
Civil works, including laydown areas, roads and ponds were designed to withstand the rigours of a stockyard and also to cater for flooding events common to Port Hedland.Download Profile
